• Hello, I am not sure if these two things are connected, but since about September 20th when I updated the Jetpack plugin I have been having this issue that, while I am logged into my WP dashboard, if I open a new blank tab in my browser and type in the address bar:

    mydomain.com/wp-admin/

Instead of showing me the dashboard home page in that new tab (because I am still logged in as far as that browser is concerned), WP will show the login screen so that I will have to log in again. And it will also log me out of the first tab.

So this is step by step how it happens:

    1) Open a new tab in a browser and log into my blog https://www.mydomain.com/wp-admin/. So far so good – I am logged in and in this one tab I can do whatever I want in the dashboard without getting logged out. However…

    2) Open a new regular blank browser tab (not a private tab) and type in the address bar of that tab:

    https://www.mydomain.com/wp-admin/

    3) instead of showing the dashboard homepage, WP on that blog will show the login screen, so I cannot proceed without logging in again. If I go back to the first tab and try to click anything in the dashboard, it will also show the login screen.

So basically, just trying to access the dashboard from a new blank tab causes WP to log me out of all the other tabs.

I am sure this is not the correct behavior for WP as I have several other blogs on the same server and they don’t have this issue. If I try to access the dashboard from a new browser tab on those other blogs, providing I am logged in in one tab, I will NOT be logged out but instead I would get the required URL, which is the dashboard homepage.

By the way, this issue is independent of the browser used. I tried with Chrome, Vivaldi, Opera mini, Firefox… they all show this issue with that one blog, but not with my other blogs. All my browsers are set up to accept all cookies.

Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue? It looks like an issue might be connected with some bad cookie setting that that blog puts out… or something like that.

To find out, try disabling Jetpack plugin.

If you can install plugins, install and activate “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/
It will add some additional feature under create a new menu position Tools > Site Health.
On its troubleshooting tab, you can Enable Troubleshooting Mode. This will disable all plugins, switch to a standard WordPress theme (if available), allow you to turn your plugins on and off and switch between themes, without affecting normal visitors to your site. This allows you to test for various compatibility issues.
There’s a more detailed description about how to use the Health Check plugin and its Troubleshooting Mode at https://make.www.ads-software.com/support/handbook/appendix/troubleshooting-using-the-health-check/
