We have installed WP Mail SMTP and are using it for sending emails from our WordPress site.

In the following article from G-Suite: https://support.google.com/a/answer/178333

    It says:

“If you use an SPF record to validate outgoing mail servers for your domain, you need to set up your SPF record to include your outbound mail gateway server. The SPF record needs to include both the G Suite mail servers and the outbound mail gateway server.”

So we created the following SPF record:

    v=spf1 include:sendgrid.net include:mailgun.org include:_spf.google.com ~all

I am wondering if WP Mail SMTP should be included in this SPF record, as per the instructions in the G-Suite article?

If so, what is the URL: include:_______

  • Hi warrenp,

I apologize, but I’m not clear from your message which mailer option you’re using (the record you shared seems to include 3 mailer options).

However, when using a G Suite email address we recommend using the Google mailer option in WP Mail SMTP. This will not involve altering DNS (at least not beyond what you needed to do to setup G Suite in the first place), and so lets you avoid some of the technical challenges that SendGrid and Mailgun can run into with G Suite emails.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks very much Jess.

We are using the Google mailer option inside of WP Mail SMTP.

WP Engine suggested adding SendGrid and Mailgun to the SPF record, because they use SendGrid and Mailgun to send mail from their WP Engine servers.

Meanwhile, we added Google to the SPF record as well.

So I’m wondering if we also need to add “include:wpmail.org” (or something like that) into the SPF record as well?

    Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

    Hi warrenp,

You don’t actually need anything special/extra in your DNS settings in order to use the Google mailer for WP Mail SMTP ??

    Hope that helps!
