In that case, I recommend asking at https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/wp-mail-smtp/ so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.

A cause could be this:

In the past I have had the issue that the server that was sending my mail was blacklisted by eg Google because other users on the same server were spamming Google users. (Shared hosting).

Goog wont tell you necessarily that it rejected your email.

You can check if your email server is blacklisted at

https://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx

Just enter the domain of your sender email address.

I would not be qualified to help out with a settings issue and would recommend you open an issue with the plugin devs….I believe James pointed out the link…
