    Hi,
I have a question regarding the support for multisite.
I have multisite on subdirectories – the main site has https://www.example.com, sub sites then have https://www.example.com/de, https://www.example.com/pl…

Each sub site is a separate site – even with the structure.

Can I use and link one account mailchimp with several API (separate for each sub site)?

If not will it work if I have a separate mailchimp account for each sub site?

I don’t want to use subdomains as some other plugins are not working as needed with this setup and also seo is making issues for us when using subdomains

  • Latest info I found was on a thread saying they weren’t planning to add support for it and that their javascript library is written in a way that can only support subdomains.

I’m also interested if anyone has found alternatiave plugins or coding your own mailchimp solution?

Hey there @horsee and thanks for chiming in @nevenjevtic

Currently only subdomain Multisite configurations are supported such as subdomain.example.com Multisites that are in a subdirectory format will not work properly with Mailchimp.

Why multisite with subdirectories cannot be properly supported?

When I switch to subdomains I have issue with my seo tool that is taking subdomains as separate sites. I heard Google is doing the same.

Will it not work even when I will use a separate mailchimp accounts for each sub site?

@horsee This is due to the nature of how the Mailchimp Javascript is designed at the moment for only supporting Top Level domain in order for the scripts and tracking features built-in to the Mailchimp plugin to work.

To answer your follow up question it wouldn’t be supported to use subdirectory sites regardless of separate Mailchimp accounts or not. The plugin will not work as intended and we wouldn’t be able to provide support or guidance setting that up.

However you are welcome to try and it will depend on what type of functionality is a necessity. For instance tracking and scripts will not work meaning pop-up forms and campaign tracking for e-commerce will not work as expected either. There is a chance that the sync may work between the separate installs and accounts where only purchase data will sync, meaning that the plugin will be severely limited.

Very understandable where you’re coming from on this and with that said, I’ve brought this up with our development team once more to revisit this scenario and view this specific case I’m bringing up that involves your support request in this thread.

While I can’t say for sure if they will change this in the future. I can assure you I’ve brought it on the radar as I totally understand how sub directory sites are pretty common but here in support we don’t have control over the development process and decisions we can only be the voice of our users who have wrote in such as yourself.

    Thanks for writing in.
