• From my understanding the plugins on www.ads-software.com should be licensed under GPL, right? Or at least follow the WP requirements.

If so, how com many plugins have “restriction” (which by GPL should not) like: www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/free-translation

“If the hyperlink to https://www.appliedlanguage.com is removed the
free translation service will be deactivated.”

And this is what WP DEV FAQ says:
“The plugin must not embed external links on the public site (like a “powered by” link) without explicitly asking the user’s permission.”

    HELP????

  • Hello flamaa,

that’s a good one. I’m not sure about that but I’m sure you are free to remove that functionality.

There’s more confusion to some WordPress plugins and GPL. One of our plugins which is a modified copy of some other (very popular) copy was removed for no reason. It just disappeared. Nobody told us any reason.

We were forced to do our own version, as the original was missing some features and plugin author refused to put it into code or even talk with us about it even though we offered some reasonable donation.
