• WP-Remote should be taken out. It just does not work. On a number of my sites I’ve found that WP-Remote tells me all is fine and up to date.

Than checking the backend myself, some sites have 8 or more plugins to be updated.

The “wonderful people at Human Made” do not respond either. I think this plugin is dead!

No idea what the issue is.

  • Hey Chris,

Sorry it’s not working correctly for you, which plugins is it that aren’t being tracked?

    Hi Tom,

    Seems to be random.
The other thing that goes wrong, that it does not signal it’s own wp-remote plugin update on all my sites.

Plus (and I blame wp-remote for this) it sometimes de-activates plugins…

    Hey Chris,

Hmm, the only updates which should fail to show would be updates for plugins which aren’t hosted on the WordPress plugins directory, where the plugin author has implemented their own update mechanism. Next time it happens I’d love it if you could ping us with which ones aren’t working so we can track down the issue.

To double check are you saying that even if you refresh the site in WP Remote the updates don’t show up?

The WP Remote Plugin updates aren’t showing?

Plus (and I blame wp-remote for this) it sometimes de-activates plugins…

We have had a few reports of this, internally it just uses the WordPress code to deactivate the plugin so we’re not sure why they would be failing to re-activate after an update.

    Hi Tom,

    Glad to read your email.
I like your plugin, but is should work.

I’ve gotta go now, but will get back to you soon.
How do I “ping” you about missing updates?

    thx
    C

We obviously want it to work everywhere too, it’s a complicated problem though!

You can drop me an email at [email protected].

I believe I have the same problem as well.

I won’t say WP Remote “doesn’t work”… Just that it seems a bit cranky.

I have it looking at some 40 sites. When I log onto WP Remote, it does not update the status of the sites automatically. If I click the “refresh all” link or a group’s “refresh” link, it tries to… but I cannot trust that it will display correctly. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t.

Only when I individually select a site and then click its individual refresh does WP Remote report back the status of the site correctly.

If it helps, I’m using Firefox 19 & Win XP, not that that should make a difference. If you think it would… let me know and I’ll give it a shot.

    I’ve experienced the same problems:
? WP Remote says it updated a plugin, but when I have WP Remote check again, it shows the same pending update.
? WP Remote doesn’t detect that its own plugin requires updating.
? WP Remote doesn’t reactivate some plugins after updating (Google Doc Embedder is one).
? When I email [email protected], I get a reply maybe 1 out of 3 times.

I also get a lot of “URL doesn’t appear to be a valid url” errors, on several sites on different hosts. I still haven’t heard back from support about that.

I really like the concept of WP Remote, and I’d like to help troubleshoot if I can.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one complaining.

The strange thing is that when you “rock the boat” a little, I got 2 replies from the makers (I think that’s what they are).
Then I reply to them. Even directly. And than I hear nothing…

Not sure if the developers want to make this better

    Hey guys,

We do want to make it better, we’re just also a pretty busy group (We also run Human Made Limited and happytables).

I promise WP Remote is on our radar, we use it everyday and have lots of plans to improve it.

    Thanks Tom for your reply.

    Understand you’re busy.
We want to help you too. So help us to help you: What do you need from us/me to make this a better product and iron out the creeses?

    thx

Thanks for the offer of help Chris.

Detailed reports of the various issues are most helpful.

We have about 60 sites which we monitor in WP Remote and we haven’t seen any issues with plugin updates not showing etc.

With those the issue is likely either the specific plugin, so if you have a specific plugin which is refusing to show an update, let us know so we can test with that specific plugin.

If it’s not just a specific plugin, a detailed as possible report on when the updates don’t show.

There are some scenarios where a plugin update will be visible on the site but not through WP Remote. For example if you refresh the site on WP Remote, it hits your site and does an update check, that says there are no updates, later you visit your site directly and that triggers another update check, this time there are plugin updates. For those plugin updates to show in WP Remote you would need to refresh the site in WP Remote so that it then goes back to your site and gets the latest status.

I’m having the same problem. Everything was great before the last WP Remote update. I manually updated all my sites. Now on plugins that need to update … I click the update button and WP Remote appears to work its magic but the plugin doesn’t update.

Opening WP for the sites and updating that way works fine.

Here are the problematic plugins for me: Soliloquy Lite, Options Framework and Simply Instagram.

Thanks for a great plugin and I’m sure it will be fixed.

I can confirm this bug same problem after Update WP-Remote 2.5

Today I’m not able to update WordPress SEO by Yoast. WP Remote says it successfully updated, but the sites still show a pending update in the WP admin. When I refresh in WP Remote, it shows pending updates again.

    Hey guys,

It seems like this is a widespread issue and must be a bug we’ve introduced in a recent release.

We’re looking into it as a matter of priority.
