That function is for Linux operating systems only. Windows file permissions don’t work the same.

Since 99.999999% of the web servers which will be running WordPress (and WP Security Scan) are ‘nix operating systems, this plugin doesn’t currently support Windows for OS specific functions.

Most of the plugin will work in Windows, with things that deal with WordPress, PHP, etc. At this time, parts of the plugin dealing with the file system are only functional in ‘nix operation systems.

I’m not sure why you’re using Windows XP (didn’t you say Vista in the other thread?) for your webserver, but I highly recommend you make the switch to Linux for web hosting purposes.

I’ve found WP and the plugin wp-security-scan very usefull, but I think I’ll choose to switch to another blog software – before considering a ‘nix platfrom for my web hosting.
Sorry for the little confusion about XP / Vista. When I said Vista in the other thread, I was too tired after ‘hours’ trying to get the plugin activated – I think…..
My web services are hosted by a server running Windows XP, but the Computer I was using posting in the thread has Windows Vista.

99.999999% of the wordpress blogs does not run on Linux. Since more and more people convert from Apache to IIS due to security reasons I am writing a tutorial for windows users and wp-security-scan plugin.

Its very easy to hack Apache on Linux so I recommend all my customers to convert to Windows and IIS.

Please set down the crack pipe for a moment and listen to the voice of actual knowledge and real world experience:

“Hacking” (did you mean, “cracking?”) Apache on Linux is *far* from trivial. Between address space randomization techniques, SELinux, chroot()’ing, stack-smashing protection, the NX bit in hardware form and in software emulation, the SuExec mechanism, etc etc. Hacking any well-written program under Linux is a genuine challenge for even those with two or more brain-cells to rub together.

I invite you to prove me wrong but sincerely doubt you will be able to, let alone articulate *any* compelling reason for running WordPress under Windows. Your need to justify the use of Windows for this absurd purpose is simply a manifestation of your inability to part with an easy, clicky GUI and actually flex your “brain.”

For whatever its worth, I have been a Linux Systems Administrator for over a decade and my previous employers include Red Hat in a Sr. Engineer role. I have just a little bit of insight into this subject.

I’m a newbie at the wordpress game much less linux. Can you verify that I’m understanding you correctly that this error [which I too, am getting] can indeed be fixed in Ubuntu?

At the moment I’m using a Vista PC to access my server, which is Linux [Ubuntu]. I’ve found permission errors with the OS’s not liking each other. Is this error due to that?

Paste your error.

You are NOT getting the same error, or you arent running Ubuntu, as the error above, uses VERY specific pathing thats not seen in Linux.
