WP site not loading since domain pointing to /wp directory

    Hello,
    Joomla user here trying to learn WordPress. I installed wordpress in a subdirectory and began building a new WP site. Then I asked my hosting company to point the domain to the /wp directory. Since they did that, the site does not load correctly (no formatting), and mostly does not connect to the server at all.

    I have read documentation on https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress#Moving_WordPress_Within_Your_Site and deleted the joomla files from the root, this morning. I then uploaded the wordpress files to the root directory. Still having no luck.

    Domain is newconceptracemedia.com

    I am not in need of any of the joomla files as the old joomla site is no longer needed.

    Can someone help? Perhaps I am missing something. I am a graphic designer and strictly a front-end designer, without much database knowledge.

  • You messed up things with the website base URL.

    Since its a new WordPress file. Delete everything on the main domain and delete /wp.

    Run a fresh install on your main domain, and make sure the site url is your main domain only, without /wp or /blog..etc

    As above – your entire wordpress website was setup to look for everything in /wp/ – since you made /wp/ your new root directory, everytime anything looks for /wp/ it will get a “Not Found” error.

    The easiest way to fix it is to access the MySQL database and in wp_options, change the site_url and home_url (remove the /wp/)

    Thanks for your help. I have run a fresh install on the main domain root. Glad I didn’t get too far into the project. Live and learn.
