WP SMTP works well, and it solved an issue I was having with getting DMARC/DKIM/SPF to work properly with WordPress generated emails.

I would probably rate it 5 stars, but I had to deduct a star because installing WP SMTP silently installed, and activated, an additional forms plugin that had nothing to do with WP SMTP. I only noticed it because it started bothering me to create forms. That’s really bad form on the part of the developer.

    Hi @dantappangmailcom

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and we apologize for any confusion with this!

WP Mail SMTP doesn’t auto-install WPForms Lite behind the scenes. WPForms lite will only be installed during the Setup Wizard if the “Smart Contact Form” checkbox is not unchecked.

Also, we have a notice at the bottom of that Setup Wizard step that WPForms will be installed.

We apologize again for any confusion here, but I do hope this helps!

    Thank you.

Edited: I just installed the plugin on another site and there was no checkbox for the forms plugin, that I could see, anywhere in the setup wizard. I did see the notice about the installation of the forms plugin, but it was in small gray text hidden at the bottom of one of the steps, and vanished when I went back in the process to try to find the checkbox. This is really not above-board.

    a. Neither the checkbox nor the notice are very visible in the setup process. I was not aware of the other plugin until it showed up, activated, in my plugin list.

    b. apparently the check box is checked by default

Those are both dark UI patterns. I don’t think that’s an adequate excuse. Please re-think this.

    Hi @dantappangmailcom

Thank you for getting back to us and for sharing more feedback. I see where you are coming from and have shared your comments with our team.

Please know that we had zero intention of following “dark UI patterns”, our checkboxes during the email and feature sections use a similar UI/color scheme and we had only included WPForms due to its relevance to sending form notifications.

As for the notice and checkbox not appearing, once you’ve installed/activated WPForms the notice and checkbox are removed. If for some reason you were seeing the notice, but not the checkbox that is something we would be interested in looking into to because that is not the intended behavior.

If you are able to reproduce the issue, please send a screenshot of the notice appearing, but not the checkbox.

Again we apologize for the inconvenience and will continue to improve WP Mail SMTP thanks to your feedback.
