WP stats admin login

I’ve had this problem for about two weeks now.

1: My WP site was downloaded and activated through a hosting company
2: I can login to my site and add posts etc no problem
3: WP says I don’t exist and I had no API key allocated to me
4: I created a new id through WP to get an API key
5: API key has successfully activated two plugins one of which is WP Stats
6: It says its activated but when I click on the link and go to the dashboard it asks (again) for my login details and then repeatedly returns to same login screen. Original login constantly comes back saying I don’t exist and the new login id just disappears and the screen asks for login again.

Round and round I go. Why is something that should be so simple so very NOT simple?????
