• This is my first WP theme, called Zine. It turns the front page of your blog into more of a magazine/newspaper front page than a blog, a bit like News Time.

    Basically, the front page is a 3-column layout, with no sidebar. The middle column shows posts you choose to place in a a€?featureda€? category, and the left and right columns show the rest of the posts. Viewing individual posts and archives works pretty much like any other blog, with a left -hand sidebar.

    Anyway, here’s the relevant post on my blog, which has a download link, or you can view it in action here.

    Oops, careless use of plurals in the link. Fixed now.

    hipocratico, I did consider using the_excerpt as the default, but I thought some people might want to use “more” tags instead.

    Hey, I’m getting an error on the single post pages where the navigation should be:

    WordPress database error: [You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘ORDER BY post_date ASC LIMIT 1’ at line 1]
    SELECT ID,post_title FROM sandbox_posts WHERE post_date > ” AND post_date < ‘2005-08-03 20:51:02’ AND post_status = ‘publish’ AND ID != ORDER BY post_date ASC LIMIT 1

    You can see it at my sandbox

    Hmm, I don’t know much about MySQL and the database, so I’m not sure if I can help. Try taking out the “post navigation” div from the sidebar, just to see if it is that causing the problem. I haven’t seen this error when tinkering with the theme before, so I wonder if it’s an error with the database, rather than the theme.

    Can anyone else help here?

    OK Because of the way I’m using that left column as a sidebar, I can’t have that nifty page navigation thing in the sidebar because the prev/next post stuff has to be within the loop. So, I moved the navigation stuff into the content area. Obviously I’ve gots lots of twiddling to do, but I really do like the format idea.

    I’ll be curious to see if I can still use Adhesive sticky to tack stuff to the top.

    OK…next issue. If I have a post in multiple cats and one of those cats is the “Featured” cat, the post shows up in both columns.

    Never mind. I figured out that if you use query_posts and then do something like:

    ‘<?php if ( in_category(9) ) { } else { ?>’

    with each post, it works. ??

    (where cat 9 is the Featured cat)

    I am a relative newcomer to WP, but after fruitlessly trying to learn to use Textpattern to create a news/opinion site about Sri Lankan affairs, I think your theme might be the clincher for me.

    Does anybody know where this theme can be downloaded? The original URL seems to have been taken over by a mortgage site.
