WP themes that "don't look bloggish?"

I am considering using a WP blog to showcase some of my work, not on my regular blog site. Through networking, I’ve learned/heard that many people don’t like the typical blog format when reviewing a designer’s work, but that there are blog themes that don’t look like blog themes which are acceptable..

My question is: how do I locate such WP themes? Through my dashboard, there are no search terms like “blogs that don’t look like blogs”. I have seen a couple of sites that offer them, but they seem to have a sort of subscription thing going on, and I’m more the pay for the theme and be done type..I don’t want to get roped into ongoing charges.

Any thoughts on where I can look/how to find non-blog-looking-blogs, and what some better deals out there might be?
