    My site worked flawless until I updated wordPress to todays latest version. I got a message that said it was unable to complete the update. Now I have this error message on the site for any page.
    Warning: require(/var/www/vhosts/malcolmxring.com/httpdocs/integrity/wp-includes/load.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/vhosts/malcolmxring.com/httpdocs/integrity/wp-settings.php on line 19
    Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required ‘/var/www/vhosts/malcolmxring.com/httpdocs/integrity/wp-includes/load.php’ (include_path=’.:/opt/atomic/atomic_php70/root/usr/share/pear:/opt/atomic/atomic_php70/root/usr/share/php:/usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php’) in /var/www/vhosts/malcolmxring.com/httpdocs/integrity/wp-settings.php on line 19

    I have good back-ups. However, this failed update appears to have changed something that will not let my backups work.

    Please help me resolve this issue.

    Try MANUALLY updating. Download WordPress again and unzip it, and use that to copy up. Access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. (NOTE: do not delete the?wp-content?directory or your?wp-config.php?file). Please read the Manual Update directions first.

    Backup: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong. You can never have enough backups!

    One issue I see. The manual update requires me to deactivate plug-ins. I cannot get to the admin control panel. Am I to manually update without deactivating plugins?

    I did the manual update and I still have the same Warning.

    This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

    If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    I finally got this to work, but no Plugin are installed. They should have been deactivated before this manual update. How do I complete this with my plug-ins installed?

    FYI If you don’t have access to your Dashboard’s Plugins page, try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). Here is another tutorial: https://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-deactivate-all-plugins-when-not-able-to-access-wp-admin/ – If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    I still have not gotten this to work, but, you have provided me some tools to use. I will work on this. I have to pick my child up from school right now. I may be a few hours before I can implement the suggestions.

    After having time to think about what happened, I believe the best way for me to be sure of the integrity of my site, is to restore the same WordPress version without the upgrade. In this way, I can manually upgrade to the latest with a better success.

    I am not positive a plugin caused the problem. The error came after the WordPress update.
    Since I was able to get access to the backside, after uploading the latest WordPress version. I believe if I upload the same version my site was using, before the WordPress update, It may just fix my problem I originally asked for help with, by omitting the latest version.

    Do you think the process I described might get rid of the error that I posted at the beginning of this thread, which resulted after a failed WordPress update?

    I was able to upload a working back-up. I then uploaded a newer version to replace my ‘uploads’ folder in wp-content. I ‘dropped’ the database restored and up-loaded my latest database from the same WordPress version. Everything appears to be working as before the crash. I feel better! ??
    Now, I want to address the plugin problem. As I looked over my latest back-up, I notice over half the plugins were missing in wp-content. I assume this means they did not update.

    I am going to try an update now? If there is an error with the update, am I to try and do it manually? Same thing for WordPress Update!?

    To be in good status, all I need to do are my current updates!

    Thanks for your help. I am getting there. I learned a little bit more from your help. I am going to do a fresh back up of what I have restored by Grace. Then we can proceed with updates. ??
