WP5.5 Breaks Addition of Featured Images from NextGen

    I cannot assign any featured images from my NextGen Galleries (latest version) to new posts since the upgrade to WP5.5. When I open a gallery after clicking through from the ‘Set NextGEN featured image’ option and go to click ‘Use as featured image’ then nothing happens and no image is assigned (usually the text slowly vanishes too but it stays stuck). I suspect this is due to the jQuery change in WP5.5 but it needs an URGENT fix.

    I should add that this is only a problem in the Classic Editor, while Gutenberg is fine but I’m unable to use Gutenberg due to its usability issues.

    As Mihai already mentioned, this one has already been reported to the developers.
    Please, be patient, we are a small team. Our release cycles are around two weeks, but we will probably release the current dev branch first before adding any other fixes. So, the next release will not likely include this particular fix.

    Worth saying that the release of WP 5.5.1 has provided a “temporary” fix for this by reintroducing some of the old jquery, but this is expected to be removed again early next year. At least that gives NextGen a bit longer to fix it.
