wp_get_archives and monthly abbreviatons

Good question. This may be overkill for your needs, but maybe try a plug-in like Smart Archives Reloaded:

It does, I totally agree, but unfortunately I couldn’t find a non-plug-in, non-core-hacking solution in my research for you. Perhaps someone else knows of another way.

123milliseconds – thanks, I saw that too when researching, but that involves hacking a core file, something snthr specifically didn’t want to do. It’ll get overwritten during every upgrade, and will need to be preserved/restored manually.
