• Hi all

One of my client’s websites is suddenly showing a corrupted wp_options table. It is irreparably damaged. I have tried to repair it with both WordPress and in PHPMyAdmin but it can’t be done.

I’ve managed to download a backup and rebuild the site locally, so I can now set-up the website again.

However, before I do, is there any reason why this happened in the first place? Is it a problem with the hosting? Is it having too many plugins running (we have Wordfence, a caching plugin etc.)? Or do database tables just corrupt every once in a while?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

DB corruption ususally occurs when the database server is not shut down properly. This can be due to an abrupt server termination ( “It’s dead, Jim!” ) or software crash. The best thing you can do is backup often.

Some how I have completely damaged my WordPress loading.
I cannot get any where with reloading from what I have seen on many searches. Perhaps I need to clean EVERYTHING off my computer and start a-freash. How do I do this please.

Thanks Steve. Yes will make sure that the backups are more than once a month!
In this particular instance, the files are hosted by an independent company (e.g. not myself or a large company like GoDaddy)
The company resell a hosting package to my client. Is it possible that there is a fault with the hosting that could have caused a table file to become corrupted?

Generally, corruption occurs when the server is not properly shut down (i.e., it crashes) or there’s a fault in the MySQL process. It happens occasionally on the best run servers. I use the plugin “backwpup” to backup sites automatically, on a schedule.
