  • Hi @shnt08

    Thanks for reaching out!

The 401 Unauthorized error will usually display for pages that are behind an extra layer of authentication so if you normally need username/password credentials to view a private site then this could be the issue. Other causes can be your firewall, or in rarer cases your site’s DNS records.

It might be worth disabling all plugins (except Wordfence) and running a default theme such as Twenty Twenty-One. Does the issue persist? If Wordfence can now connect, enable your plugins and theme one-by-one to see when the issue starts reoccurring.

If you’re unable to get Wordfence to connect to your site after also flushing the cache on any firewalls running on your server, it may be worth speaking with your hosting provider to explain that inbound requests are receiving the “Access Denied” 401 message to see if there’s any troubleshooting that can be done from their end.

I’d be happy to look into a site diagnostic for you if you don’t have any luck with any of those approaches. Let me know what you find!

    Thanks,

    Joshua
