wp_wfhoover table grows to huge size

Hi @ispacecrusader,

wfhoover should clear at the end of the scan. Can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email

It may also help to see the debug output from a scan. If you could do the following steps for me:

• Go to the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page
• In the “Debugging Options” section check the circle “Enable debugging mode”?
• Click to “Save Changes”.
• CANCEL any current scan and start a NEW scan
• Copy the last 20 lines from the Log (click the “Show Log” link) or so of the activity log once the scan finishes and paste them in this post.

Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostic > Debugging Screenshot

This will help me see exactly what is happening during the scan.

Hi, I sent you the diagnostic report yesterday evening. I ran the scan today, with all functionalities enabled. Oddly enough, there was no issue this time. Still, here are the last lines of the log:

I’m glad to hear it succeeds sometimes. From your diagnostics and the scan, I believe the issue may be due to the number of URLs being scanned (currently over 1 million). Please temporarily disable Scan file contents for malicious URLs in Scan > Scan Options and Scheduling > General Options and keep an eye on your scans to see if the table size stays low.

The large number of URLs in the scan may be coming from WP Rocket. For WP Rocket, you can exclude wp-content/cache/* at Scan > Scan Options and Scheduling > Advanced Scan Options > Exclude files from scan that match these wildcard patterns (one per line).

We upgraded the MySQL database from v5.x to v8.x and ran some more tests. Now all seems to be working as intended. Thank you for your help Margaret!

Unfortunately, the problem has recurred when I was away for a while. For most providers this is actually a non-issue, but the provider for the website in question limits the maximum size of the database, unless you pay for upgrading it. Despite having upgraded twice, the issue still occurs, even with a maximum database size of 1,5GB.
I have disabled Wordfence for now, as this is unworkable. @wfmargaret – do you see a solution for this in the forseeable future?

I’m sorry to hear the issue started reoccurring on your host. Have you been able to test disabling the setting Scan file contents for malicious URLs?in?Scan > Scan Options and Scheduling > General Options? I suspect the database may be growing temporarily during the scan due to the huge number of URLs being scanned.
