According to Updraft, when trying to create a database back for a WordPress site, the wp_yoast_indexable table has well over a half-million rows.

I ran Yoast’s SEO optimization tool on this website. The first time it failed to complete, running for several hours. When I restarted it, it completed on the second pass.

The table still has 553,766 rows.

What the heck is going on, and how can I address this?

Yoast team, any ideas here? This problem persists, and the entire database has grown by another two MB since I posted this problem!

    Hi @mpedersen

We understand you have a concern where the indexable table has several hundred thousands of rows in the database.

Is this a relatively large website? If you have tons of content such as thousands and thousands of pages, that would explain why the indexables data would be a lot.

But could you check if that is the case? Or is it that it’s strange if you had a small to moderate sized website (that wouldn’t coincide with the hundred thousand rows) there is data that is repeated in the indexables database?

You’ve mentioned that you’ve already completed the SEO data optimization process.

`Can you please try resetting our indexables in the database tables by following the steps below?
    1. Install & activate the?Yoast Test Helper plugin
    2. Go to Tools > Yoast Test
    3. Locate the Yoast SEO section and click on the ‘Reset indexables tables & migrations’, ‘Reset Prominent words calculation’, and ‘Reset Internal link counter’ buttons. After each click, the page will reload to confirm that each reset was successful. Note: Resetting the optimization doesn’t undo any of the hard work you’ve put into the plugin as the SEO data is also stored in WordPress’ default tables. It’ll just reset the custom Yoast tables that contain the combined data pulled from those default tables.
    4. Go to SEO > Tools, and under SEO data, click the “Start SEO data optimization” button to allow Yoast to rescan your?content.

For your site’s health and safety, we recommend creating regular backups of your site and database. This is especially important before installing, updating, or removing plugins.

Can you check after resetting and re-running the SEO data optimization process, are you still encountering the same issue?

To answer your questions, the site is not large. There are only 870 published posts (884 total), and 40 published pages (44 total).

Thanks, I will give these suggestions a try and report back.

So it’s been 11 hours since I hit the data optimization button, and it’s only approximately 2/3 of the way completed.

Ultimately, data optimization took so long I don’t even know when it was finished as I timed out of my login on the site! I restarted it again just now, and can tell that it remains a massive amount of data. What are the next steps here?

Noting that the rerun went faster. Still hunting this down. For some reason Updraft reported that now our wp_posts table has tons of rows…need to figure this out…

    Hi,

Since you’ve mentioned that this site only has about 800+ posts and 40+ pages, we wouldn’t expect that the database tables would have 500,000+ rows of data for the indexables.

Could you check if you are using the latest version of WordPress 5.9, Yoast SEO Free 18.0, and the latest version of the rest of your plugins and themes? If you were to check and inspect the database tables, does it show a repeating of the data anywhere?

After resetting the data using the Yoast Test Helper, if it’s taking too long to complete over the WP admin dashboard, you could also look into reindexing using WP-CLI – https://developer.yoast.com/features/wp-cli/reindex-indexables/
