• I’m using WP 1.5 and wpblacklist 2.9. Today when I tried to update the blacklist, I kept getting a file not found error (when using https://www.jayallen.org/comment_spam/blacklist.txt or a copy of the blacklist uploaded to my own site, path checked and double-checked). I’ve successfully imported the blacklist before using this version of WP & this version of wpblacklist.

    Two questions:
    1) Any idea what the problem might be?
    2) The exact error message says “File not found. Please check the path or copy the file to the wp-admin directory.” I did copy the blacklist file to the wp-admin directory–will it automatically use it from there, or do I have to do something to get it to recognize it?

Any advice will be much appreciated!

Not bumping–I have some new info that might be relevant. I was just trying to install wpblacklist into a separate new install of WordPress, and I got this error message running the installer:

Warning: file(): URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /home/[username deleted]/daisywreath.net/journal/wordpress/blacklist-install.php on line 87

Warning: file(https://www.jayallen.org/comment_spam/blacklist.txt): failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in /home/[username deleted]/daisywreath.net/journal/wordpress/blacklist-install.php on line 87

My web host (Dreamhost) recently disabled allow_url_fopen — could this be my problem? Should I give up on wpblacklist & investigate other options?

In case anyone else is having this problem: I asked for help at the author’s forum, and he helped me work around it. The thread is here: https://forums.farook.org/index.php?topic=439.0
