WPML und UFAQ Search

• First, can you just let us know, did you create the FAQs first in English and then create German translations, or was it the opposite?
• Are you using two separate shortcodes on the page? (The ultimate-faq-search shortcode and the ultimate-faqs shortcode)

  If so, this can sometimes cause a conflict. The search shortcode has a built-in attribute to display all FAQs on page load, so there’s no need to use both shortcodes. Could you please try removing the [ultimate-faqs] shortcode and just putting the following on your page: [ultimate-faq-search show_on_load=”Yes”]? That will show the search and all the FAQs on page load. Does that change the behaviour of the search?

• As another test, what happens if, instead of creating a direct translation of the FAQ post with WPML, you create two separate FAQs for the English and German, and just assign them to different categories. So, for example, create a category called “english” and one called “german”. Create a new FAQ (on the English side of the site) and assign it to the “english” category. Then create the same FAQ in German (but still on the English side of the site) and assign it to the “german” category. Then create a new page and place the [ultimate-faq-search include_category=”english” show_on_load=”Yes”] shortcode on it. And create another new page and place the [ultimate-faq-search include_category=”german” show_on_load=”Yes”] shortcode on it. Does the search work on both of those pages?

Thank you very much for your feedback.

I’ve solved the problem a bit differently now:
Category “de” with subcategories on the German page.
Category “en” with subcategories on the English page.
As shortcode I use [ultimate-faq-search include_category=”de”] resp. [ultimate-faq-search include_category=”en”].

However, there is still a problem on mobile:
As soon as I enter a question, we are suggested appropriate answers.

Testing it in the Google Chrome mobile view works; directly on the iPhone doesn’t.

We tested it on our phones and on desktop and it’s not working on either, so we wanted to ask: what is the exact shortcode you’re using on the page now?

for the search bar it’s [ultimate-faq-search include_category=”de”]
For the different FAQs it`s [select-faq faq_id=’XXXXX’] with the different IDs.

We also tested the search without the include_category=”de” but it didn`t work either.

Since you are using both the shortcodes on the same page, there are chances of a conflict. For troubleshooting purpose, what happens when you add the [ultimate-faq-search include_category=”de”] to a new page, does it make any difference?

Looking at the console errors on the page, we think that there may be a plugin conflict.

To test this: could you disable all plugins except for UFAQ then test the search on https://www.zapptales.com/de/faq-search-test/ ? If it works then, then reenable the plugins one by one (testing each time).

If after disabling the plugins, the search still doesn’t work, could you:
– reenable the plugins
– then try briefly switching to a default WordPress theme, for example, “Twenty Nineteen” and test the search? (just so we can rule out a theme conflict)

unfortunately, deactivating all plugins and switching to another theme is not an option for us.

I suspected that it might be due to different cache options like “Minify/combine CSS”, “Minify/combine HTML” or “Minify/combine JS”.

Unfortunately, disabling these options didn’t work either.

Do you have any idea why the search of your plugin might not work properly?

Does your caching plugin has an option to disable the “Cache System”? If yes, could you disable it and see if it makes a difference.

Also, could you enable the debug mode and enable error logging so that if any error is causing this issue, the logs would help us understand the issue in more detail. You could enable the debug mode either by editing the “wp-config.php” file (https://codex.www.ads-software.com/WP_DEBUG) or by using a plugin such as https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/debug/ You could forward us the section of the log file that shows the error related to this issue which would help us understand what might be causing a conflict with the plugin.
