    Hi guys,

My client has bought the WPML full version and there is bug causing a massive overload on the page load with the admin-ajax.php.

When the string translation plugin from WPML is activated, then the web takes over 7 seconds to load the resource admin-ajax.php. If i dissable the string translation it takes less than a second. As you might imagine i cannot run the multilingual webshop with out string translation.

Could you please help us? i can give you the details to log into my backoffice and my ftp if you wish.

    Thanks
    Kind regards

    Hi Mihaimiahi,

Did you do that signed in the backoffice as an admin or simply visited the website? If you dont sign in as admin, the cache files will come up.

Plus i guess that you are using a copy of my installation in local, which makes things way faster than when it is in a shared server (as 90% of the websites in this world). On my side this are the exact results:

LOGED IN AS ADMIN WITH WPML STRING TRANSLATION ENABLED:

    – Home page: 2,1 sec
    – Shop: 4,67 sec (1,99 secounds out of those, are from the ?wc-ajax=get_refreshed_fragments)
    – Any other plain text and some image page: 2,49 seconds

LOGED OUT AND INCGNITO WINDOW WITH WPML STRING TRANSLATION ENABLED:

    – Home: 2,17 seconds
    – Shop: 3,60 seconds
    – Any other page: 1,81 seconds

LOGED IN AS ADMIN WITH WPML STRING TRANSLATION DISABLED:

    – Home: 1,74 sec
    – Shop: 2,59 sec (800ms out of those are from the ?wc-ajax=get_refreshed_fragments)
    – Any other plain text and some image page: 1,55 seconds

LOGED OUT AND INCGNITO WINDOW WITH WPML STRING TRANSLATION DISSABLED:

    – Home: 1,63 sec
    – Shop: 1,25 sec (867ms out of those are from the ?wc-ajax=get_refreshed_fragments)
    – Any other plain text and some image page: 1,23 seconds

As you can see by the results above, the string translation plugin makes a HUGE difference from when it is enabled and when it is not. I kindly ask you to take your time doing as many tests as needed on the copy of my site, and hopefully with this long post, you will see my commitment with your plugin and the community and my willing to help others.

    Thanks
    Kind regards

It looks like the Shop page is slower for you. Possible because it displays multiple products.

We’ll check this to see if there’s anything that can be optimized on our end for this and let you know.

    Hi Mihaimihai,

It is not just a base shop problem, so it is not because it shows 44 products. It happens in every page, even pages that has nothing to do with the shop, they are slower, in fact you can do the tests as well on a single product page or category base page.

    Thanks
    Kind regards

    Hey Andres,
Thank you for reporting the slowness.
As you have identified – the problem may be related to String Translations. We are going to check it with our teammates from the String Translation team – there are some pretty big performance improvements coming there in that plugin. Once we have some news, we will get back to you.

    Hi George,

Thanks for you support man, hopefully you will get to the bottom of this, and a LOT of people will be happier if than what we are now with your WPML plugin.

    Thanks
    Kind regards

    Hello again Andres,

Today we released a new version – WooCommerce Multilingual 3.8.1 – and also our teammates released a new fix version of WPML 3.4.1 + addons.

I would suggest that you backup your site, and test both of these versions.

There should be a performance improvement.

Of course, we are not stopping here – for the next releases, my colleagues are working on further optimising WPML String Translation.

Please test the latest release, and let us know how it is for you.

    Hi George,

I have updated just like you said, and i have to say, the problem hasnt been solved.. it is even worst… i went back to the 7 seconds load on the website.. except that now there is not 1 file slowing down the website, now is like all the files loads fast.. but the total amount of time between all of them.. is 7 seconds…

    any suggestions?

PD: I deleted the cache to do the test.

    Thanks
    kind regards

I have retested now, with the cache enabled, and the speed is not lower… but is not faster either, so is like same speed now as it was before the update.. 3.5 seconds to load the shop page.

Could you please illustrate the behaviour that you are reporting? One screenshot illustrating the load times would be nice.

Also, could you tell me if the timings that you report here include ?wc-ajax=get_refreshed_fragments
In my testing setup, this request takes about a second.

Would you mind to test if there would be any change if you try with minimal set of plugins? At this time I suspect that there might be some plugins (maybe related to cache) that may be affecting your site.
Please try with all non WPML and WooCommerce plugin switched off.

    Hi George,

I have updated again the plugins today (it seems that yesterday something could have gone wrong), but with the cache files dissabled it still takes 6 seconds. check the attached image:

    https://s32.postimg.org/9vk4ri45h/stats.png

And i dont need to dissable all plugins.. as soon as I dissable wpml string translation… the website reduces its load time by A 50%, check image attached:

    https://s32.postimg.org/w2wypjon9/stats_2.png

With that improovement would be enough for me as if activate the cache back on some files that will mean my website would be loading at less than 1 second per page.

Thank you very much for testing it again!
It is very nice that you have some performance improvement – we changed a bit WooCommerce Multilingual, and our colleagues improved a bit WPML String Translation.
For the future – our teammates from the WPML String Translation team are cooking on bigger improvements related to how strings are handled – but they are still in development, testing and profiling, and would be released maybe in the next release of WPML (3.5).

    (@andresmolina)

mmm sorry to say, but there has not been improovement. You may have missunderstood my message. I said that there is not improvement but it is not making it worst either…. When do you think they will update the string translator? that is clearly core of all problems with your plugin and woocommerce.

Yes, it seems that I misunderstood your message.

The improvements to String Translation are still in development, as I mentioned above. they will be released either separately, or in the next release of WPML 3.5. I have no other information at this time.
