• Hello,

I have multiple wordpress blogs up and running right now, and am planning on adding more soon. Most of these are set-up as websites with WP as the CMS. Each has its own domain name. Some of these are clients.

I would like to make use of the multi user capacity of WPMU, but I;m not sure what my best option is. Should I

    1. Install WPMU and then transfer all existing sites as subdomains (and use domain -mapping to make them separate sites), and then upgrade to WP 3.0 when it is released?

    2. Wait for the official release of WP 3.0.

My concern is that if I install WPMU now, I could have compatibility issues (themes, plugins etc) on the upgrade.

    Please advise!

    Thank you.

  • Well, the compatibility issues with themes is a non issue. plugins, you’d probably be okay.

What *I* would do is wait for 3.0 or use the beta. Why?

Because you have to switch the main blog from WP to MU if you use that. this involved tearing down your install and rebuilding it. using 3.0 requires an upgrade and a few clicks & copy/pastes to enable the network. 3.0 = less work by a long shot.

    Thank you, andrea_r!

I think I’m going to install the 3.0 beta2 that was released earlier this month. I have one last question. Do you know how how long it will be before the final version of 3.0 comes out?

    Thanks!

I just discovered that 3.0 Release Candidate has just been released! Think I’ll go with that. I’m guessing it will be an easy upgrade going from that to 3.0 final release.

The wait won’t be long. Guessing a couple weeks.
