[WPMU] Sub-site display more updates than network admin wp

  • Sub-site display more updates than network admin..

    Any idea about this behavior and how to track down the plugin that needs to be updated?
    It’s quite annoying to spend hours to track down and find the plugin that is trolling you and finally update it to get to go away. It simply just shows in the sub site as the update icon with let’s say 6 updates available, but when you head for the network admin it only shows 5.. Sigh..

    Any ideas leading in the right direction is very appreciated!

  • On the sub-site, when you click into the 6 updates, what displays? Is there 6 and, if so, what’s the difference between this and the list from the network level?

    It just shows the number 6 updates on the sub site and 5 updates on the network with the WordPress update symbol:

    The update is there, but due to sub-sites have no privileges on a WPMU site the update is for some reasons not displayed. You just know that it is there and you have to update it manually.

    5 updates available on the network admin. (You are taken there when you click).

    Oh and if you go straight to plugins (As admin of course) on the sub-site, the number 6 goes down to 5 as the update is hidden(?) I guess to to lack of permissions on sub site level. And since the plugin is only activated on the subside and not the main WPMU site it doesn’t show up.

    I seen this especially when it comes to paid plugins were you have to enter the license into the sub-site. That is just another scenario when this annoying thing happens. but it has happened with free plugins to of course.
    I have literally spent hours to find the darn plugin and then updating it manually with FTP. After that everything is fine and dandy until next time the plugin has a new update..
