The Google Maps API automatically loads the latest version of the js file, maybe they changed something that made it impossible for two plugins to try and load Google Maps on the same page. Or maybe a plugin update in either of the plugins changed something.

No, but the JS file from the other plugin was loaded anyway, and that in combination with my plugin broke it. You don’t need to use a shortcode on a page to always have plugins load the required files. Some plugins load the files they need on all pages, even when they don’t need to.
