• What on earth is a wrapper? What would one wrap? What does it do? When would you use it?

Something that makes learning WordPress almost impossible for newbees is the lack of definitions to words a techie named something. Somehow the other techies understand, but the rest of us are lost. For example, I found plugins that are “wrappers” but the explanation for what the plugin does is it is a wrapper. That’s it.

I run into this all the time. It’s like someone shouting word at you in a foreign language with no context clues to help you out.

There are settings within plugins that I do not set because there is no explanation as to what they do and since many plugins are made by people whose first language is not English, if there is any type of short explanation, it usually does not make sense. The ones that are written in a complete sentence, many times assume that you know what they mean and are stated like the wrapper explanation – it’s a wrapper.

If you check the plugin websites, again, they assume you already know what a feature does. Instructions are so minimal. If you google for some help maybe you’ll find a video, however, many times there is music instead of words and a mini pointer quickly darting around the tiny screen which when blown up, is too blurry to be read. Again, they are assuming we know what is going on.

I have been trying to teach myself WordPress for years, no joke, and I get to these brick walls that would so easily be broken down with a simple layperson definition.

It is extremely frustrating. If someone would maybe start a wiki where people could add definitions to words and various functions or when writing up instructions, write them for those who actually need to read them, that would be so incredibly helpful.
