Write title back to PDF metadata

    Is there a way to have any updates to the Media Library Title field be written back to PDFs after they’re uploaded?

    We often have authors upload PDFs without proper titles in the file metadata. This results in having the file name used for the Title field. There are also times where PDFs are the result of scanning and their title field has some machine-generated value that isn’t the best.

    The site search isn’t affected by bad Title field values in the metadata of the PDFs if good titles are manually added via the Media Library. However, SEO with search engines like Google are negatively impacted because they look at the title in the PDF metadata.

    If this isn’t possible currently, could this be added as an enhancement request please?

    Thanks for your question and the details of your reasoning. A similar request came up in an earlier topic:

    As I responded there, “MLA does not have any features that modify files associated with Media Library items. That was one of my early design decisions and I am still wary of messing with the files in any way.” At this time I have no plans to revisit my decision and add such features to the plugin.

    As you probably know, MLA’s IPTC/EXIF mapping rules can possibly be used to automate the process of adding good titles to the Media Library items.
