Writing by email help needed

  • Can someone please help me understand the instructions for setting up the writing by email option. I don’t understand the directions, but I tried anyway and it didn’t work. I setup an email account with my service provider, but the emails just bounce back. Can someone explain the directions in a little more detail please.

  • Diagnose this by seperating your setup into steps.
    1. Get your ISP to create and account and get it to work correctly in your favorite email program. Once you have it sending and receiving, you know it is setup correctly. No disable that setup in your email program and don’t ever use it again.
    2. Enter the information you used in your email program into WordPress.
    3. Setup Cron as described in the help
    4. Send ONLY plain text email to the account. Other emails will look funny.

    Really that’s all there is to it. From what you’ve said, I suspect you are stuck at step 1 which doesn’t yet have anything todo with WordPress.

    if you’re stuck at step three, did you happen to go here: https://www.skippy.net/blog/2005/05/26/plugin-wp-cron/ and grab the wp-cron plugin and install it?

    Yes I did. My email box now has Ooops POP3 connect: Error [] [] repeatedly, I have postie, I have wp cron, I have tried email accounts at mediatemple, I have tried a Gmail acoount.

    I also cannot find wp-mail.php
    Is there a site I can take this single file from?
