• Hey everyone, I am having some issues with writing a new post that are confusing me a bit…

I insert an image and center it- then press enter twice to give me a space to write my text under it, should be pretty basic

But what results when i publish is the text up against the bottom of the image as if i made no spaces (i also tried inserting < br > and < p > tags w/out the spaces of course)

And it reverted my text from the style of my < p > tag to a different style (the style of the meta text under each post)

I’ve played with this a bunch of times and I cant imagine this being the way it normally works for everyone or maybe im just missing something.. any words of advice? I’ve spents days creating my own theme with no prior knowlege of how this works and i find it to be pretty ironic that i get stumped on the easy part of posting!

  • I bet you are using the wysiwyg editor when posting…
(and pressing Enter 2x doesn’t work)

After you put in the image, press return only once and see if that does it.

Yep, I am using the wysiwyg editor and no pressing it just once doesnt work either

Is there alternate/better ways of posting besides the wysiwyg editor?

    What browser are you using?

    Im using firefox

For your previous question: it is certainly better to disable the wysiwyg. If you just type in it, it might work decently. But as soon as you try formatting and more complicated stuff… it screws up everything.
You can/should disable it in two places:
    a) for the whole blog > Options > Writing
    b) for yourself > Users > Your profile > bottom left corner

is there no way of formatting and doing more complicated stuff in posts with good results then?

Anyone can format a post or page to whatever degree of difficulty they can imagine, and then probably times that by 100.

Formating and doing “more complicated stuff” without the use of WYSIWYG is done through CSS/HTML. Best place to start is reading up on both. There’s a billion sites out there offering tutorials and step by step guides on how to do all sorts of wonderful things.

    My fav site is mandarindesign.com/boxes.html

That link will take you to a step-by-step guide on inserting Images using CSS/HTML.

Ah thank you, It completely escaped me that the formatting should be done that way

I’ve found that combining the RTE with CSS works really well. For example, using a plugin to activate a couple of TinyMCE’s feature’s (that WP has deactivated for some reason) can go a long way. Specifically the two select dropdowns (“format” and “style”). I put some css to handle images and h1-h6 in the worpress.css file (and style.css) located in the TinyMCE folder in the wp-admin directory. Now when I want to right justify (float) an image so the text wraps I click on the image and then hit the “style” dropdown and select “imgright”. It would be great if the wordpress.css file was accessible in the “presentation” section of the site admin so it would be easier to alter. I know XHTML pretty well but I find it valuable to be able to do everything I want with the RTE.
