Wrong aspect ratio

When I set the aspect ratio to 1, select an area and then crop the medium thumbnail (300×300), instead of replacing the current medium thumbnail a new thumbnail with the dimensions 300×299 is created (FileName-300×299.jpg).
Am I doing something wrong?
