Hello guys, today we noticed that our sharing counter is wrong, a lot of numbers that are not real.

There is a known bug about it?

    Thanks!

  • Hi @skydrow,

Thanks for reaching out, I’d be happy to assist here!
There isn’t a known bug about share counts currently. Can you link us to an example of where you’re seeing a discrepancy?

    Looking forward to helping!

Thank you for your quick reply!

You can see here WebSite, go to the article bottom, and there you can see the count of share. But if you take the url and check the real number here: https://www.sharedcount.com/, you will see there real numbers.

    Thank you!

    Hi @skydrow,

Thanks for getting back to us with your website.

I’d be happy to explain a bit further on how ShareThis uses a javascript based count service, which is separate from the results you see on sharedcount.com.

ShareThis uses our own proprietary count service — not the native share count API. For example, we’re not counting all the shares of a given URL to Facebook/Twitter; we’re counting the shares that came through the Twitter ShareThis button.

There is JavaScript code for all of the buttons that will increment the counter immediately up being clicked. From there, every few hours we update and push the information of completed shares that occur from our backend logging system. So there’s immediate interactivity for the user experience combined with periodic updates of the data from our data logs.

Does that clarify the question? Let us know if you have additional questions as well!

@brandon, this mean that there is not bug and my numbers are good?

Well, i dont know how i can check if there is an issue, please go here, and see the share counter numbers of the list of articles, you will see there is something weird with those numbers.

    Thank you

    Hi @skydrow,

Thanks for getting back to me, that’s correct there shouldn’t be anything wrong with your share counts when comparing to sharedcount.com.

With the page you just share however, we are currently looking into this and hope to have a solution soon. It seems that any website that does not have unique URLs and appends id/p= as a parameter is being affected by this.

Our developer team is looking into a fix and I’ll be sure to let you know once we have covered all our basis. If you have any other questions or concerns please do let me know otherwise I look forward to following up.

    Thank you!

    Hey @skydrow,

Apologies again for the delay on our end. We’re still working on the fix and hope to have it out by next week. We made a few improvements to the widget as well which will make the buttons faster.

I’ll be sure to check back in with you once the fix is deployed, we really appreciate your patience on this.

Thank you so much for your patience! We have gone ahead and deployed a fix and you should now be seeing different share counts on every single of your blog posts.
