The Open Graph og:image
meta tag that is output for your site’s page is configured in the Yoast SEO metabox under the Social tab by specifying an image for the ‘Facebook image’ setting. og:image
is what Facebook uses for it’s preview image, and og:image
can also be used by a number of other social media applications for the preview image.
However, the Google preview that is shown on the first tab of the Yoast SEO metabox showing the first image that is contained on a page/post when a featured image is not specified for the page is the expected behavior. If you are trying to affect the image that is shown in Google’s results, we would recommend setting a featured image for the page. The og:image
is primarily used for the preview image for Facebook, Twitter and similar applications, so the preview image you select for it should only be the image you intend for the preview shown on social media applications.
