• A reader using Thunderbird was having difficulty getting the RSS feed to work. The problem seems to have been on his end and was resolved without a good explanation.

But during the debugging process he validated WP’s RSS feed with https://feedvalidator.org/. Feedvalidator approved the RSS feed, but issued the following recommendation: Feeds should not be served with the “text/html” media type

It does seem that application/rss+xml is now the preferred mime type.

    1. What can I do to change the mime type for RSS now?
    2. Shouldn’t a code fix be made to do this for everyone?

I don’t think this issue is specific to my site, but I’d be happy to post my URL if that helps. I’m using Kubrick in 2.5.

    Thanks, and press on!
    J.

I got another report of invalid RSS feed from a user who uses Thunderbird. When I check my RSS feed at Feedvalidator, it validates but issues a warning/recommendation:

This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.
Feeds should not be served with the “text/html” media type

What is the expected Mime type for WP RSS 2.7.1? And if it isn’t ‘application/rss+xml’, is there a reason?

    Thanks,
    John
