Wrong order details assigned to customers

I’ve recently migrated a Woocommerce site. On the old site, customers could not make accounts when placing orders.
On the new site, I allowed them to create accounts when placing orders.
The issue now is that some new customers are being assigned old orders that are not theirs if they create an account on the new website when making a purchase.
I can’t find much about this issue on the forum. Is there any advice for fixing it? I can’t identify the cause of the issue, but I think it must be due to the ID numbers being attached to customers and orders. I can fix it manually be removing the old orders from an account, but that’s not a permanent solution for the customer.

What you describe is usually related to the migration or caching on the site, if the process linked incorrect orders to customers the best will be to check if the issue is resolved by disabling caching.
As a first step, could you disable caching on your site, including server caching for My account page then test again? Your host can help with disabling caching on their side
If the issue persists, I’d recommend also updating the permalinks section. Could you try to reset the permalink structure, under Settings > Permalinks? just save the settings a couple of times without changing them.
Once the above is done, you can use https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/user-switching/ to see if the issue persists.
Could you please send me a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, you can paste it here in your response.

The issue only happens rarely, so it’s been difficult to replicate. It probably only affects 1 in every 20 orders, so it might be a while until I know if this has worked.

Thank you for sharing your reply. Looking at your system status, I see that your database version is outdated – it needs to match the current version of WooCommerce (6.8)
WC Database Version: 6.6.1
I’d recommend updating & verifying database from WooCommerce > Status > Tools and check if you see if that helps. I’d suggest making a backup before running those commands: https://woocommerce.com/document/backup-wordpress-content/

I disabled caching, and ran all the updates, and everything is as up to date as it could be. I used Woocommerce Tools to verify the databases, and anything else on that screen I could think of.
It’s still happening. Every time a new guest customer ticks the ‘create an account’ they get assigned old orders.
Do you have anything else for me to try to get a solution to this?

It sounds like the issue may have to do with the database and the migration process.
It might be that database has user account data from the old site (say 0123 generated and assigned previously), but this is not connected fully to the current WordPress site somehow.
When a user signs up, then WordPress generates the user account with user ID 0123 (unmeta_id in the database), which then is picking up the old database’s data as associated with this user; resulting in completely different account information associated with a newly signed-up account.
This is all hypothetical theory, and I cannot say this is exactly what is happening. However, based on the clues that are shared so far, something close to this may be happening.
If you are not familiar with mySQL database and its structure with WordPress, I highly recommend seeking professional help to sort out this situation.
Since the issue is beyond WooCommerce and its functions, you may first reach our to your hosting provider for more resources and/or reach out to professionals who can further assist you.
