• i know this is the wrong place to ask this question, but you guys are just sooo nice I’m hoping you’ll just give me a quick answer anyway.
My question: When you get comments that are from pings […]with brackets like this[…] should you just delete them?
    Thanks

  • Those are trackbacks from other blogs that have linked to yours.

Sometimes it’s spam (click the trackback link to see who blogged about you), but much of the time, it means that others are reading your blog, like what they see, and what to comment on it – it’s a good thing!

I’m personally of the opinion that all trackbacks are spam and should be deleted on sight. I’ve even deleted the wp-trackback.php file just so I’ll never see them again!

Not all trackbacks are spam, they can be a good way to integrate you blog into the blogosphere. I personally think they can be a little messy, cluttering up you comments.

Some themes style them different that regular comments and move them below the comments. I think looks better and makes sense.

I agree jleuze, themes that move trackbacks out of the comment section are very good, and I do like those. My own experience though is that 99% of all trackbacks to my sites are either spam or republications of my own content ??

Yeah, spam is always a problem, I’m glad that Akismet catches and deals with almost all comments spam for me!

I wonder if there is a plugin that helps with trackbacks spam? At least you know when a splog is scrapping your content ??
