  • Hi Selycha,

If I understand you correctly, you have:

    https://news.google.com/publications/CAAqBwgKMMqGmgsw9JCyAw?hl=sk&gl=SK&ceid=SK%3Ask

and that works correctly and you have control over it.

    But then there is also:

    https://news.google.com/publications/CAAqMQgKIitDQklTR2dnTWFoWUtGR1p2Ym5SbFkyZ3VjM1JoY25ScGRIVndMbk5yS0FBUAE

that you don’t have any control over.

    Is that correct?

If so, unfortunately, that’s an issue on Google’s end of things that the plugin, you, nor I, can fix.

What you will need to do is contact Google News Publisher Support to ask if they can help you get the shadow one removed. The form to contact them through is at:

    Hi Chris,

well yes, but that’s not really my issue nad you already helped me with this a couple months ago. ?? Thanks!
( I have already contacted Google about this too )

The main issue is that generally Google Discover and the shadow profile too load the wrong images from the site and I can’t find the answer to why?

    Thanks!

    Hi Chris,

in the meantime Google has now removed our “Shadow profile” so the url I included before will not work anymore.
Our official profile in Google News based on your feeds works much better. Only some images are not the ones defined as featured in the articles, but I suspect this could be due to the featured images being too short = less than 800px in height ( e.g. 1200×799, or 1200×540 )…
    Off profile: https://news.google.com/publications/CAAqBwgKMMqGmgsw9JCyAw?hl=sk&gl=SK&ceid=SK%3Ask

What I don’t know is how to proceed with fixing the Google Discover images now. I’ll try to wait for an answer from Google. I hope they can help.

    Thanks!

Discover is a totally different product from Google News, so Google News Publisher support won’t be able to help with that. Unfortunately, as far as I know, there isn’t any publisher support route for Discover.

I would suggest going through the articles where the wrong image is being used in Discover and checking that you are supplying consistent information to Google. The image you use on the page, in the structured data, in AMP, are consistent. Then use the url inspector in Search Console and the Rich Snippets Tool to see if you can find any anomalies there. You might have to do some testing and make changes just to investigate what is affecting which image is being used,

    Chris
