    Hey!

A client was still on the WP 4.9.9 version. Has installed Gutenberg in 4.7.0.
They updated to Download Monitor 4.2.0 and got a WSOD. In the error losg I could see some entries about a “load translation” method missing in the Gutenberg.php file.

I don’t have a still broken site to re-test and validate it.

    Greetings

    Hey @drivingralle ,

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, the combination you are describing will indeed not work. The final Gutenberg implementation which is shipped in WordPress 5.0 might have functionality that the plugin you’re using doesn’t. This is because the Gutenberg plugin was meant to test Gutenberg before it was released in WordPress 5.0.

There are a couple of solutions to this issue:
    1. You update WordPress. This is by far the best solution as you will have to do this sooner than later anyway. The biggest reason for people to not update yet is Gutenberg but you are running a Gutenberg plugin so that should not be an issue.
    2. Remove the Gutenberg plugin. Download Monitor will work fine with WordPress 4.9.9 without the Gutenberg plugin.
    3. Downgrade Download Monitor to 4.1.1. This really should be a temporary solution because you’ll miss out on all future features and security patches this way.

Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with.

    Kind Regards,

    Barry Kooij

    Hey!

    Thanks for your reply.

The client has updated to WP 5.0.3 and disabled Gutenberg remove the trouble.
I opened this ticket to make you aware of the possible breakage, because I guess there are more sites with that combination out there.
