It does suck. Like the Line in Forrest Gump – it’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.

If you’re doing something weird like turning off the autop code, then yeah, results will vary. Try not doing that. Try using the editor as intended. You might have better results.

For folks that already have existing clients that won’t want to use a new editor — or worse, have sites that depend on a custom editing experience built with ACF Pro — that’s not a useful answer, Samuel Wood.

Well, then maybe consider upgrading after those plugins upgrade. The WordPress 5.0 update is not an automatic upgrade. You can choose when to do it, or if you need the Classic Editor for an extended period, then there is a plugin for that specific purpose.

If you have compatibility concerns, then yes, holding back may be your best option.

WordPress tries hard to maintain backwards compatibility, to a fault sometimes. This is not one of those occasions. There will be compatibility breaks. So if that is a concern for you, then you have a couple extra years to figure out the problems or get upgrades going.
