    Hi,

Sounds like you might have a page builder plugin installed (or your theme bundles one), we’ve got reports of there being compatibility issues with some of these.

Please try the troubleshooting steps outlined in our master list for WordPress 4.8.x, it should help you identify the root cause for this.

Hi John, I have the same problem but only with 3 builder plugins, VC, Themify and SiteOrigin. Tested on 5 different sites, hosted by 4 different hosts, same problem. But in the default editor, Beaver Builder, and Elementor, all is well.

The thing is, the drop downs do open, just behind the editor.

    ah that’s a bit annoying!

it looks like 4.8.1 was released 2 days ago?

so it sounds like a problem with teh visual editor and 4.8.1?

It seems that there mountains of problems with 4.8.1… Everywhere you go on forums people are having issues.

Anyone know of an alternate WSIWYG editor to TinyMCE in the meantime? Difficult to get any work done with the problem of the menus opening behind the editor window.

Update: I tried deactivating all plug-ins as per instructions in another post. The problem went away, so I re-activated the plug-ins one by one. The plugin causing the problem was WPBakery Visual Composer. Will check with the developer on this

I’m following this thread as I also can not use the front end editor with visual composer and I can’t seem to get it to work anymore.

I’ve deactivated all plug ins and re activated them with no luck. I’m running wordpress 4.8.1 and visual composer 5.1.1 and x theme 5.1.1 .

Any ideas anyone? I can’t edit anything!

Seems you can’t get any support from WPbakery.com unless you purchase your own license. My version was bundled in with my website by the original developer of the site (who is no longer available to help so I am on my own). When it is bundled in, you are not entitled to support. You should try purchasing the license since you have no functionality. I am fortunate enough to still be able to edit, even though it’s a pain with the problem I am experiencing. Meantime, I am waiting and hoping for an update to the plugin.

I think I’ll have to just admit defeat and use the back end editor and make slow progress and also wait until an update works!

    Thank you
