WYSIWYG

I was told that WordPress was a WYSIWYG program, but it sure does seem to involve quite a bit of coding. I am having trouble just beginning, as I can’t even figure out how to change the heading with my logo, etc. I really don’t need all the blogging features, but rather a secure site with log-in, log-off features to the database. Can anyone give me some advice?
