• I did: I was editing one of my posts when all of a sudden the visual editor was no longer available. I was running 3.0.3, then tried upgrading to 3.0.4 to see if it helped

I saw: No difference. I updated my post and then when I clicked on visual it was showing html code only.

I expected: I tried fixing it by clearing my cookies and cache but then I went and tried my husband’s MAC (I’m on a Netbook PC) to try it there, but with no avail. Same problem, and I’ve NEVER visited the site on his computer so it shouldn’t be giving me problems there (in regards to cookies, etc) if it’s a browser error.

    Please help!

  • May be one of plugin is conflicting have tried to deactivate plugns and see if still have same problem if it works then activate one at time to find the one that is causing the problem

I will try that but I don’t see why that would be the problem. It was working fine. I tried removing extra Media files I am not using and I will try the plugins thing, but I really feel this is something WordPress techs need to help me with, it seems like something technical. Do they reply to these posts or is there a way to get in touch with someone directly?

You are in the right place. The only support you’ll get is from other volunteers.

Generally no, although if you have something specific on of the developers may chime in. Your problem is pretty vague if not common. But that’s alright since Govpatel’s advice was accurate and best.

The only thing I would add is switch your theme to Twenty Ten to rule out any theme issues.

Jan and govpatel, thanks for answering. I did deactivate ALL my plugins and that got me back the Visual editor. Now I will try activating them one-by-one.

@jan – I do feel a community is great and I can see how allowing others to answer may reduce in duplicate problems, but it feels kind of scary to me to know there is no “official” support from WordPress. I guess it’s working out this way, and from a business standpoint I kind of understand it.

    Thanks again for your responses!

I hadn’t done anything new with the plugins…any idea why this would suddenly happen?

one plugin is conflicting with another likely – like java script or similar

Thanks Sam…It appears that if I activate any more than TWO plugins, I can’t use the Visual editor! Any ideas on what could be causing this? Or how to fix it? It doens’t matter which plugins I activate, I’ve played around with it…

OK, I don’t think it’s the plugins any more because I deactivated them all and it started working. So I figured I would edit it and then when I’m done, just reactivate them all.

So, again all plugins now deactivated the Visual was working.

Then I edit my content and Update…and even with all the plugins deactivated, now I don’t see the editor again. What I did different with the content was add some pictures I took of some video shots with ScreenHunter free and add quotes… could this be doing something with coding like Java, as mentioned?

I am having this exact same problem- no more visual editor. Fortunately I usually write in the html view anyway but I want to view a table in my WYSIWYG and I cannot. There is no option to switch to that view. I think this happened a few weeks ago when I ran the update to 3.0.4 but I just updated to 3.1 and there still is no WYSIWYG editor.

Any other suggestions other than disabling and reenabling all plugins?

Check in your profile if you ticked WYSIWYG

    Hah… Wow do I feel dumb…

I had it disabled in my profile, thanks for the tip Govpatel!!

    Your are welcome

Word to the Wise: Don’t waste all the hours (or days, as I did) looking for the answer. There are too many variables to explore and most of the time you come up short and extremely FRUSTRATED over what should be such a simple fix. SO:
Just forget about the PITA tinyMCE/advanced etc. and go right to this link and get on with your life and with a MUCH BETTER EDITOR!
