• Inspired by Podz’ very clear-looking instructions (https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/xampp/) I’m attempting to install Xampp & WP1.5 from scratch & with no prior knowledge of servers or blog software… All was going well until I got to:

“Start your Xampp setup by clicking the orange ‘xampp_start.exe’.

When I clicked, Firefox opened with a big Xampp logo and “file:///C:/apachefriends/xampp/install/start.html” in the address bar. But there was no sign of the promised left sidebar or phpmyadmin logo.

Any ideas where I may have gone wrong?

  • Right, gone further now. Using Podz excellent 1.2 > 1.5 instructions, I upgraded the local copy of WordPress to 1.5 with no hitches. I can now play with 1.5 without disturbing the live blog on my host. Cool.
Podz – any comments on uploading 1.5 from the local copy? The 1.2.2 hosted database is growing, of course, so at some stage that’ll have to be dumped and restored into the 1.5 version before uploading/restoring. What issues are there to think about?

I have hit some WordPress issues now…to do with logins as mentioned elsewhere in the forums. However, xampp is a superb tool that I’m enjoying.

And I’ve now installed1.5 under Linux where I don’t see those login issues…I can now play with 1.5 and test the upgrade from 1.2.2 without worrying.

Hi, this is related so I thought I’d post it in the same thread. I installed xampp as per the tutorial, but have run into two problems – first, in the control panel, Apache won’t run for more than a second. It shows the green ‘running’, but then goes away and the button changes to ‘start’ again. Second, the https://localhost/xampp/splash.php thing gives a blank page (on all browsers).

    Can anyone help? Thanx ??
