Hi, I have successfully installed XAMPP and have made the virtual host changes in the vhost files to support multiple sites. I’m now stuck. I would like to run the local sites off of one install of WordPress. I already have WordPress downloaded. What files do I need to copy/change/create, database? Where does WordPress sit? I had one localhost copy installed and working and then I added other virtual hosts. I would be happy to document the process so others do not have problems like I have… Thanks in advance!

Hi, I did read it before and when you sent the link, I re-read it. I think I’m really getting confused now. I had made changes to all the XAMPP files and was successful in connecting to the sites (sample index.html). However, I couldn’t figure out how to change the WordPress files themselves to point to the right place, etc. I’m a beginner and I need step-by-step instructions. Now, I think I’ve screwed it up even further, because I can’t connect to the localhosts.

I know it sounds crazy, but I would even have to confirm that I’m using sub-directories, i.e., I set up a folder in the htdocs, so I have htdocs/highbridge.org as a file but conceptually, I’m not quite sure what is supposed to be inside the folder. I’ve read to completely install WP in that folder, and it works. But I have a number of sites I want to work on, and it seems like a lot to have to update WP, etc.

Any help you can give me would be appreciated. I’m continuing to try to work on this so I can have it working, but… I feel like I’m batting my head against the wall!

Okay. I am going to close this out. I installed WordPress in each sub-directory and I used the ‘real’ names of the websites (what they will be when finalized).

Just FYI, in case anyone else is struggling with this, after you setup XAMPP and it works well with the multiple ‘domains,’ you need to go to phpmyadmin, so in my case, https://hunterdonbiz.com/phpmyadmin and create a new database (remembering the name). Then you go into the WP config file and enter your info: user name, password, database name, and also the localhost name (in this case hunterdonbiz.com). Save the file. Then go and login at hunterdonbiz.com/wordpress/wp-login.php and it will bring up your new WordPress site!

Done – on to creating the new version of a very long website!
