• I have an existing WAMP localhost WordPress environment that I have backed up using XCloner v4.0.7. The backup went fine. Now I need to restore the backup to a brand new Windows 10 PC that’s on the same network as the localhost PC where I took the XCloner backup. I’ve installed WampServer v3.1.0 (64-bit) on the new Windows 10 PC. I haven’t installed WordPress or XCloner on the new PC or created any MySQL databases.

I’m confused by the instructions on the XCloner Restore Backups page. Should I use the UNC for the new Windows 10 PC (like “\\NewWindows10PC\WAMP64\www”) as the URL to connect between the localhost PC that contains the XCloner site backup and the new Windows 10 PC?

If using the UNC is the correct way to reach the new Windows 10 PC, do I have to install WordPress and XCloner on the new Windows 10 PC to make this work? If so, do I have to install the Restore Script on the new Windows 10 PC, too? If that’s required, where do you suggest I install the Restore Script on the new Windows 10 PC?

I’d like to suggest that a step-by-step description of the process to restore from one localhost to another localhost over a network would be VERY helpful.

    Thanks For Your Help,

    Bill Vallance

  • To restore your backup, you would need to download the restore from your original site and upload it to your new location, then supply the URL, like https:// of that restore script into your initial site restore script url input box, this video might help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9iWpPyG1EE&t=1s

I’m sorry, Liuata, I’m just not getting what you are telling me. What do you mean when you say “you would need to download the restore from your original site?” Do you mean the xcloner_restore.php file that was created when I took the backup? If that’s what you mean, do I need to install WordPress and XCloner on the new Windows 10 PC, then run the xcloner_restore.php file from the new PC? Are these the correct steps:

    1. Install WordPress and XCloner on the new Windows 10 PC
    2. Copy the xcloner_restore.php file from the localhost where it was created during the backup of the localhost to the new Windows 10 PC
    3. Run the xcloner_restor.php file from the new Windows 10 PC

    Is this the correct process?

    Thanks,

    1. and 2. are correct, on 3. Get the xcloner_restore.php url and paste it in your restore screen input box from your original site and start the restore from there, the same place where you’ve downloaded the restore script, and submit that form!

Let’s see if I’ve got this right this time. I’ve created a new installation of WordPress on my new Windows 10 PC and installed and activated XCloner. In my last post I said:

“2. Copy the xcloner_restore.php file from the localhost where it was created during the backup of the localhost to the new Windows 10 PC.”

Does that mean that I do the following:

    A. Copy the contents of the XCloner backups folder from the old PC to the new Windows 10 PC’s XCloner backups folder.

    B. Copy the xcloner_restore.php file from the old PC to the “restore” folder located underneath the “xcloner-backup-and-restore” folder on the new Windows 10 PC.

    C. Run a restore from the new Windows 10 PC using the files copied in Steps A & B, above.

    Is this the correct process?

    Thanks,

    Bill Vallance

There is no need to copy the backup folder content as XCloner will try and transfer the backup automatically during restore, so you only need to copy the xcloner restore restore, get the xcloner_restore.php script url and paste it in your restore screen input box and submit that form to continue with the restore. The xcloner_restore.php it’s an api script which is used as communication point with the restore host.

So what you’re saying is that I will be doing a remote restore FROM THE ORIGINAL PC to the new Windows 10 computer across the network, correct? I’m assuming I do it as follows:

    1. Install WordPress and XCloner on the new Windows 10 PC (which I’ve already done).

    2. Launch XCloner “Restore Backup” ON THE WINDOWS 10 COMPUTER.

    3. On the Restore Script page that appears, enter the URL TO THE RESTORE SCRIPT (xcloner_restore.php) ON THE ORIGINAL PC (in the form “file://///ORIGINAL PC NAME\FOLDER_THAT_CONTAINS_xcloner_restore.php\xcloner_restore.php”).

    4. Click the “Check Connection” button. The restore will take place over the network FROM THE ORIGINAL PC TO THE WINDOWS 10 COMPUTER.

    Is this correct?

    Thanks,

On 3., Your url usually starts with https://
