Everything was fine untill Monday when the traffic on my webite started to slow down.

Today I noticed that the Pages on my website could not be read by Google.

I went into my site and checked Yoast SEO XML Site map on the Pages I found this:

“This page contains the following errors: error on line 125 at column 17: Extra content at the end of the document Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.”

I am using the latest (Free) version of Yoast can anyone shed any light on why this is happening and how I can get it back to normal.

    Thanks in Advance
    Toby

    Hi Toby,

Please send us the URL to your actual website’s XML Sitemap, so that we can inspect it and see what’s wrong. The error message you have provided does not contain enough information for us to provide you with a solution.

In addition, can you confirm that you are using the latest versions of WordPress (5.2.3) and Yoast SEO (12.1)? If not, please update first and let us know if the issue persists.

We are looking forward to your reply.

    Hi MariusG

Here are the details you asked for:
    https://correlectricalservices.co.uk/page-sitemap.xml

    WordPress 5.2.3

    Yoast SEO Version 12.1

    Hi Toby,

It seems that your website is inserting custom code to the XML Sitemaps, which is causing this issue. If you view the source of your page sitemap, the code generated by Yoast SEO starts at line 988 (as in this image).

That being said, there are 987 lines of code that are no generated by Yoast SEO. We recommend performing a conflict check, to determine if the issue persists when Yoast SEO is the only plugin active. Then, you can activate your other plugins back, one by one, until you find out which one is breaking the XML Sitemap.

To sum it up, the code generated by Yoast SEO for the sitemap is correct. There is a plugin or your theme that is inserting 987 lines of code. This may be useful for other pages, but it should not happen with the XML Sitemaps.

We hope to have cleared things up for you.
