There was no error, it printed exactly what I stated in the original post. Not the usual yoast sitemap template and the urls are not links just text.

I fixed this for now my deactivating and reactivating w3 total cache.

I am also having problem with sitemaps, google webmaster showing error with category sitemap. https://iastuts.com/category-sitemap.xml
“Sitemap is HTML
Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.”
Also i had to resubmit other sitemap all these sitemaps because google couldn’t notice the changes . After that the other two sitemaps are working but not the category sitemap. Strange thing is i can access this sitemap in firefox but its showing 404 in chrome.

Hi, i also facing the same issue.

for my post sitemap is nothing wrong, just like normal.

but for my post tag sitemap, google said:

“Sitemap is HTML
Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.”

thanks

avi6600, I can’t access any of your sitemaps in any browser. For example:
https://iastuts.com/sitemap_index.xml is 404

Are you sure you have sitemaps turned on?

I’ve noticed that the Yoast SEO plugin deactivated itself completely, resulting in this error message. Re-enabling the plugin and clearing all caches should fix it.

Above pics from firefox

Below from chrome

And yes pepe i did that and after that two sitemaps are working in google webmaster but not the category one as i mentioned early.
i think i have to install another plugin for sitemaps which i dont want to, i already have lots of plugins not one more!

Alna2081,
I also have this problem most notably with the ‘https://<MySiteName>/sitemap_index.xml’ Firefox’s ‘view page source’ shows the following error on the first line of content:
“Saw ‘<?’. Probable caused: Attempt to use an XML processing instruction in HTML. (XML processing instructions are not supported in HTML)

Reading the header from ‘https://<MySiteName>/sitemap_index.xml’
gives:
[(‘x-powered-by’, ‘PHP/5.2.17’),
(‘transfer-encoding’, ‘chunked’),
(‘server’, ‘Apache’),
(‘last-modified’, ‘Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 GMT’),
(‘connection’, ‘close’),
(‘pragma’, ‘public’),
(‘cache-control’, ‘max-age=18000, public’),
(‘date’, ‘Mon, 08 Dec 2014 21:24:36 GMT’),
(‘content-type’, ‘text/html’)]
I think content-type is supposed to be ‘text/xml’ and this is what’s confusing the browsers.
Whether this affects google/bing/yahoo crawlers or not, I have no idea.

Hope this helps,
Todd

Me Too!

But if you try copy and check link from a browser it works, but all in ugly text format.

Glad, Google and Bing still can read or crawl that sitemap.

Unchecked and checked again, it doesnt change anything, still text format shown.
