xpath match question

I am attempting to execute a filter for xml to export and choose all data matching a single digit under an element <author>. It does not filter correctly if i pick element <author> to equal to 1. However, it works fine with double digit, for ex. author = 12.

Can you recommend a solution or a work around for this issue?
