• I have a blog, and my hosting service is Yahoo Business. So I am dependent on Yahoo’s WordPress support.

WordPress 3.2 has been released, but WordPress tells me I can’t update to 3.2 because it requires MySQL 5.0, and Yahoo provides only MySQL version 4.1.14.

Does anyone know about either a short-term solution or about when Yahoo will upgrade to MySQL 5.0?

I have sent an email tech support request to Yahoo, and have not yet received a reply.

  • Sorry – there’s no short-term solution ?? All I can suggest is that you start looking for a new host but, in the meantime, continue to put pressure on Yahoo Business to upgrade their MySQL. They really are woefully out of date.

Hi Drew, I’m also one of those unfortunate people who has website hosted in Yahoo, I’ve sent an email to the customer support, if I get any feedback I’ll let you know.

Thanks to esmi and RJ-Dev. I have sent an email to Yahoo asking/complaining about this problem. I’ll also update here on what I find out. I guess I’ll look for a new hosting service. I have had a lot of frustrations with Yahoo on their idiosyncratic and limited support of WordPress.

I just called Yahoo Business web hosting support (800-318-0783). It was pretty unsatisfying. Yahoo is working on the problem (updating MySQL server to 5.0), but it will take 1-2 months to get solved. The update must be done on the back end by Yahoo, it cannot be done by user schmucks like me. And it can’t be done on an individualized basis (the tech support person with whom I spoke put me on hold and tried to update me, and then informed me that her supervisor said it must be done on a broader basis behind the scenes at Yahoo). They (Yahoo) have gotten “numerous” contacts from customers about wanting to upgrade MySQL server to 5 in light of WordPress 3.2, and they are giving it a “priority”.

I have had a number of problems on my blog caused by Yahoo’s limited support of WordPress, and this simply gives me more motivation to find a different hosting service. Anyone have any recommendations?

I’m sorry but, due to the amount of spam that they attract, we do discourage posts asking for host feedback and close any such topics immediately. Have a look at some of the WordPress recommended hosts or search the forums for recommendations.
