The WordPress software running on Yahoo’s Small Business Blog Manager is version 1.9. I sent them an email regarding future upgrades and was informed by Yahoo Customer Support that they will not upgrade to version 2.2.2 until some condition or situation forces them to do so. I guess that the security fixes in 2.2.2 are not enough reason for that to happen.

So the question is, does anybody reading this use WP 2.2.2 with a Yahoo Small Business website and blog??? I sure would like to see a step-by-step procedure for getting all the required files to reside in my Yahoo web space files.

  • Well to start:

Gotta admit though that the term “bend over and take it up the *cough*” comes to mind. (Excuse me but it does) Is there a reason why you’re staying with a host that isn’t providing good customer service?

Last I heard, Y! was still offering 2.0.2… chock full of some Y-specific plugins for permalinks and such.

As drmike mentioned, you can certainly do your own upgrade, but you’ll have some extra hoops.

I’m staying with Yahoo because it gives me a website with no ads or other distractions, and because it does provide free tools (i.e. Sitebuilder and WordPress).

I’ve mucked around with WordPress a bit to get my blog going (springvalleyhoa.org/blog). The only way I could get the blog up was to use the Yahoo dialogs. I don’t have the basic concepts yet for WP that would let me do what I want, but that will slowly change.

Sure would be nice to see a write-up explaining a bit about “under the hood” i.e. what the various WP files are used for, a bit about their parameters, etc. something like “Inside Windows” for example.

Yep, I boo-booed. Yahoo provides 2.0.2, not 1.9 like I wrote. Well, once I understand how the WP files interact I’ll be a lot closer to learning how to use WP itself.

apparantly, you have not looked aoround the links at the top of all the pages on this site much, eh?

Click the one that says “Docs”

    For Drmiketemp:

Thanks for the link to the upgrade process, but upgrading assumes (I assume) that WP is already installed somewhere in my portion of the server disk (i.e. somewhere in https://www.mywebsite.com).

And I have not done that yet – I’m using an installation of WP that Yahoo has made available to all its users. So-o-o

Looks like I need to create a subdirectory such as https://www.mysite.com/wordpress and then install WP 2.2.2 into it.

Is that the right place to start?

    TIA, Skeezicks

Um, nearly every host does that.

As to the Yahoo install issue, if they’ve put the files within your webspace, then you should be able to upgrade them. Most script installers copy ovr the files from elsewhere on the server into your own space that you’re leasing. You should be able to upgrade.

Okay, I’ll give that a try. Thanks for your help.
