I just got an error from Google Search Console because there’s a link in the page head of my WooCommerce shop page for “Next”, linking to a Page 2 that doesn’t exist. I don’t see any settings anywhere for pagination in Yoast, in WooCommerce, etc. I’ve seen other Support topics mention this meta tag issue in relation to blogs but not WooCommerce.

Why was this automatically added to my Shop page (like, did I set something up wrong?) and how do I fix it?

Thanks for reaching out about your shop pagination. Can you let me know the page you have set as your Shop page in WordPress > WooCommerce > Settings > Products > Shop pages?

Also, it’d be helpful if you could share a screenshot of the error you got in the Google Search Console so I can understand the issue better. You can use any image-sharing service like https://pasteboard.co/, https://snag.gy/, https://imgur.com/, https://snipboard.io/, or even upload the screenshot to your website. Once you upload it to an image-sharing service, please share the link to the image here.

Hello @abuzon

Please share the URL of the page you have set as your?Shop?page in WordPress > WooCommerce > Settings > Products > Shop pages. You mentioned it is THE “Shop” page, but https://www.partakekitchen.com/shop throws a 404 error.

Regarding the menu page, I suspect it is set as a paginated archive that’s supposed to have a series (e.g /page/2/, /page/3/, /page/4 etc) which explains these tags:

<link rel="canonical" href="https://www.partakekitchen.com/menu/" /><link rel="next" href="https://www.partakekitchen.com/menu/page/2/" />

I understand Google Search Console reports that https://www.partakekitchen.com/menu/page/2/ as Duplicate, Google chose different canonical than user. According to the Google indexing report, this page is marked as canonical for a set of pages, but Google thinks another URL makes a better canonical. Google has indexed https://www.partakekitchen.com/menu/ instead. the page that we consider canonical rather than this one.

If you think https://www.partakekitchen.com/menu/ shouldn’t be a paginated archive, you should change the page template used to create it via your theme. This will prevent /page/2 from being created because https://www.partakekitchen.com/menu/page/2/ is a duplicate of https://www.partakekitchen.com/menu/. You can speak with your theme developer about this.
